Caring for your French Horn

Supplies and Accessories Checklist

• rotor oil

• Selmer tuning slide grease

• mouthpiece brush

• snake

After Each Use

• remove excess water from instrument

• wipe instrument down, removing traces of fingerprints

• return instrument to case

Weekly

• clean mouthpiece using liquid hand soap and lukewarm water

• visually inspect instrument for mechanical changes (ie. broken water key, springs, torn corks, etc.)

• vacuum case

Monthly

• snake and rinse lead pipe and slides

• grease all slides

Yearly

• have instrument looked at by a qualified technician.

Instrument Case

Your case is a very important piece of equipment as it protects your instrument against small bumps and scratches.

• most cases do not offer protection against heavy drops

• do not store music/music folder inside your case unless it is designed for this.

• DO NOT SIT ON YOUR CASE!

• make sure instrument fits properly in case

• most shops will not charge to remove a frozen mouthpiece - please do not attempt this yourself
